Wintry precip possible north of Houston overnight Wednesday
Clouds will race into southeast Texas while you sleep tonight with rain possible late Wednesday and Thursday.
The moisture is coming in from the southwest, over-running very cold air that's blowing into the area now. The upper atmosphere temperature profile still shows our temperatures staying just above freezing in Houston, not quite cold enough for snow.
However, it will be a few degrees colder across our northern counties where some sleet and snow could mix with the rain when it starts to fall overnight Wednesday.
The pink areas on our exclusive FutureTrackforecast model show a wintry mix of precipitation around midnight Thursday in places like Brenham, College Station, Conroe, Huntsville and Livingston.
By the time you wake up Thursday morning, temperatures across all of southeast Texas will be a little higher and rain will be falling across the whole area.
This weather system is not like the snow storm that moved through Houston back in December. This time around temperatures will be rising, not falling, while it's raining. That's why I don't expect travel problems around here. The roads in Houston will be wet, not white.
If you're traveling into north Texas, however, you might be driving through snow once you get past Huntsville.

It is sleeting slightly with some mixed rain in Austin County right now, just south of Brenham.

You don't expect travel problems while it's raining? I wish.
RESPONSE from TIM HELLER: Well, the roads will be wet. For some drivers, that's a problem.
