Watching two storms in the tropics
For awhile Wednesday afternoon, it looked like TD#2 would be upgraded to a tropical storm and given the name "Ana." There was a big flare-up of thunderstorms and there was a compact circulation as seen on satellite. Even some of the internal data from NOAA was listing the storm as a "Tropical Storm."
But by the time the afternoon update was released from the National Hurricane Center, the storm looked less impressive on satellite and NHC declined to upgrade it...for now.
Computer guidance continues to suggest this system will strengthen into a tropical storm. But dry air wrapping into the circulation and moderately strong wind shear seem to be affecting the storm's internal structure.
Meantime, another tropical wave has emerged behind TD#2. This is the storm I've been talking about for a few days now. Computer guidance on this next storm suggests this could be even stronger. There's no dry air wrapped around the tropical wave and it's currently moving through an area of light wind shear.

Tim-Is there a way to show the live mega doppler larger?-Since it is the only one in real time I really like to check it out, but it's so small that it's not much use-It would be terrific if it would go full screen!!
Thanks, Craig Price--33 year viewer-
RESPONSE from TIM HELLER: Let me check with our web department. Good suggestion!
