E-cycle Drive at ABC13

We want your junk!  Well, not all of it. Just the old electronic junk that's collecting dust in your attic or garage.

Earth_day_2008ABC13 will host an E-Cycle Drive this Friday, April 18.  Stop by the KTRK studios on 3310 Bissonnet anytime between 6 AM and 2 PM.

We’ll take your old computer monitors, keyboards, mice, routers, printers, fax machines, power cords and telephones. If you want to E-cycle your old computer or laptop, we ask that you erase or remove the hard drive before you drop it off.

Also, join meteorologist Casey Curry and me for a live Earth Day program from 9-10 AM, Friday morning. We'll focus on clean living!  It's easy to be "green."  We'll show you how.

Recycling is great but is this for show or for the good it does? I live 25 miles away from the e-cycle drive. I wonder if my footprint is greater throwing e-junk in the trash or driving? There is no way to save a year's worth of e-junk for your drive next year - or will there be a drive next year? Are there places closer to me that take light bulbs and batteries so I don't have to use the trash?

RESPONSE from Tim Heller: You need to check with local municipalities in your area about what type of recyclables they will accept. Many communities will take limited recyclables in the curbside bin, but allow you to drop off other items in person.

I hate that we missed such a great opportunity to dispose of old equipment. When will there be another?

RESPONSE from Tim Heller: There are two more opportunites for you to get rid of your e-waste. The Westpark Consumer Recycling Center on Westpark near Chimney Rock will take items from 8 to 5 PM on Saturday. E-Cyclables will also be collected at the Rice University Football westside parking lot from 9 to 2 PM on Saturday.
