Doug Brown retires

Doug_brown_bio_picLong time weatherman Doug Brown is hanging up his barometer this week, completing a 50 year career in television. A remarkable accomplishment. Prior to coming to KTRK in 1975, Doug also worked at KWTV in Waco and KHOU in Houston.

Off-air Doug is the same friendly, folksy person you saw on TV. He is a good friend and a trusted member of our weather team. We will miss him.

As you probably know from watching Doug on-air, he likes climate statistics. What you probably don't know is that those statistics came from meticulous, hand-written weather records Doug kept for several decades. He could find a weather factoid in his notes faster than the rest of us could look it up on the computer.

Not that Doug was afraid of computers. Anytime I scheduled some computer training for the weather staff, Doug was right in there. When he started in TV, weathercasters were using markers on a wall-map. So Doug appreciated all the work computers did for us, how they made our job easier.

Now, he really gets to enjoy the easy life. Doug said he plans to spend time with family, do some traveling and cooking. His forecast looks sunny.

Congratulations Doug!

I,ve Watched13 Eyewitness News Since I Was Little And I Loved Watching Doug Brown With The Weather He Was So Accurate My HOLE Family Loved Him He Knew How To Make People Laugh I Hated To See Him Leave. I Wish Him The Best.

I can't believe Your really gone my parents and grandparents have always watched 13 news and now that I am a parent myself I rely on 13 news too.I hope to see you every now and then just pop up and surprize us, weather won't be the same with out you.My daughter asked me this morning where is the man with hair like Papaw's, and my othe daughter said you were on vacation like Papaw too and I told them you retired. They were both upset So just know you will be missed by the 4&7 year olds too.BEST WISHES!!!!

Wow... it's like Dave and Ed and Doug have been in my living room for so many years, it's like the comfort of family in times of trouble. It's going to be odd not seeing you, Doug... but I hope you stop in every once in a while to keep the younger forecasters on their toes. Hope your retirement is all you ever hoped it would be and blessings on you and yours for your years of service and long hours during our most nerve wracking hurricane seasons. Take care, old friend.

Doug I have enjoyed watching you for a good reason.... I was born and raised in Brady Texas and now live in Houston. You always seem to tell the weather in Brady which was so nice to hear. I graduated in 1982 Brady High School but told my family about you. I will miss you and your Brady weather forcast!!

Doug,

I'll miss you man. I've been watchng you since I was a kid. It may be sunny skies for you in retirement but for the rest of us the forecast is gloomy. I hope you taught the younger ones a thing or two. I for one will not forget you.

Rob Hunsaker
P.S. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your "Non-Sensationalized" forecast.

I am sad to know Doug is retiring, but he deserves to relax & watch the clouds go by! Doug was my 1st weatherman, growing up in Waco, Tx & I was so happy to see a familiar face when I moved to Houston. The last time we spoke was the day after 9-11 when I'd asked his permission to use his name in a song I was writing. Don't be surprised if you hear his name on the radio someday! He will be missed by everyone.

Dough
I remember you when you were with Waco satation. First time I ever heard the weather forcast options and the reason why the weater would be one way or the other. I watched the Waco satation because of you. I went off to A&M and you left Waco before I graduated. I have been all over the world with my job and when I finally came back to Texas/ Houston here you were. As we both have a little more experience under our belt from my first encounter with your first weather reports, I always prefered you, and thus Cahnnel 13. I hope in your retirement you enjoy half the pleasure you brougt to this Temple boy. I wish you the best!

Wish you the best in your future endeavors...passing the torch is hard sometimes, but can be very rewarding as you begin a new journey. Good luck and God Bless.

Wow 33yrs. of having you in my living room giving the weather. It was always like having a personal friend standing right there giving me the weather. I wish you the very best in your retirement.

You will posetively be missed in my living room. My hats off to you, may you have a great retirement.

Enjoy your retirement Doug Brown. You
will be missed here in Montgomery, TX.
We have been watching you for 30 + years.

Doug,

Thank you for being you as well as being a heck of a weather man and a meteorologist. You managed to merge the skill of a surgeon with the bedside manner that we all enjoy. We wish you the best of luck while we thank you for being such a nice guy!

Just wanted to let you know you will be missed. I have watched you doing the weather for as long as I can remember watching t.v. My parents have always watched channel 13 and as an adult I have followed suit. Good luck and happy wishes in your retirement. You will be missed.
Katina Davis and Family

Congratulations to Doug Brown for a great career!! I've been watching his weather reports since I was a kid growing up in Bryan. I'm talking KWTX/KBTX days. Thanks, Doug!

Congrat's on your retirement Doug!! Best of luck to you as you enjoy your time with your family, traveling, and cooking. You were the best on ABC News. Well take care and enjoy your retirement. :)

Doug,
My favorite meal is also beans and cornbread.
I also like to dip my cold cornbread in milk.

I also recently retired and enjoy it very much.

Congratulations,
Doug Canterbury

Live the good life Mr. Doug! We will miss you!

Doug visited my elementary school in the mid 1970's. I enjoyed the visit back then and liked seeing him, particularly in the mornings before leaving for work. Very nice and very professional. He will be missed.

I've been watching Doug Brown since I was a kid and he was doing the weather on Johnny Watkins' show in Waco. Congratulations, Doug, and may you have a long and happy retirement.

Its going to be sad not to see Doug in the morning...I grew up watching he and Ed on KTRK. I got to meet Doug at the Hurricane Workshop at the GRB in 06, as Tim said he is a very nice person on and off the camera. We walked and talked for some time that day. You almost forget "Hey...this guy is on tv..." LOL.
But anyway...Im very happy for you Doug. I hope you have lots of fun.

Well congrats Doug, i was born and raised in houston we have always watched 13 news. After 55 yrs in houston we moved to far west texas and still watch by the pc, i know houston will miss you, haveing the familiar face to rely on best of luck.Come back for a visit now and again!!

ShebasLeopard

doug wish you all the best, We have seen you since I can remember, I started watching ch 13 since 1973. You guys are like my family. Keep safe and enjoy your retirement, I retired last year and I LOVE IT. My God bless you with good health.......We will miss you

OMG! I grew up in a household where Channel 13 was the predominant station, so I feel like I know him personally. Doug, you have earned this moment. I surely hope that it is as refreshing and rewarding as you have been to hundreds of thousands of viewers over the last 50 years. Be Blessed!

Doug you will be greatly missed as one of the true gentlemen of television. The only thing I hate about this process called aging is not being able to see my very long time T.V. friends. I pray you have a blessed and happy retirement.
I will miss you.

Doug Brown...cool as a spring breeze.
I remember roping you into some patio interviews "back when" ...and you were super nice to this PR person who always had a client in tow. Glad to hear you are a golfer...that take's time! Best regards, Shirley Barr
